Memorial Day Thoughts

Here I am sitting on the back patio, it's Memorial Day and the girls have just been fed and put down for what I hope to be a 2 hour nap.   Erica and her mother just left to enjoy lunch at an Italian eatery in downtown Novato.    It's quiet here with the sun shining I am listening to the quail run through the brush and watching hikers coming and going from a Mt Burdell trailhead across the street.

I have to be thankful for everything I have on this Memorial Day.   My grandfather Herman Hoffman fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he helped keep the Germans at bay in Belgium.  Before he passed, I never knew much about his time served in WWII and that was mostly because he never wanted to talk about it.  I am sure for him it was probably the most horrific time in his life.   Over 19,000 Americans were killed & American casualties easily exceeded 80,000 in a battle that lasted roughly 40 days, you can bet Herman lost many friends.

I am so grateful to those that have fought for our freedom and for everything that I have.     Thank you to those that have passed and to those the fight today.

I now have to digress because as I type this, my dog just got sick on the patio and the babies are making enough noise that I need to check in on them in the living room.

So after you read this, take a moment to reflect on your freedom, even if it is freedom to clean up the patio after your dog gets sick.

Cheers,
-dave
