A Day at Tejada Ranch
We first met the Tejadas last year when we were sourcing our Grenache. Eric & I met Ibo & Nina at their ranch walked through the vineyard and shared stories. It was clear that we had similar values, views about life and after tasting the samples, we knew our search for Grenache ended here.
Recently the Tejada's invited us up to their ranch in Lake County. It was a spectacular Saturday with the mercury sitting steady at 65 degrees. The Gordons met up with us in Healdsburg and we caravaned the rest of the way to the Tejada Ranch. When we arrived, Nina & Ibo met us with smiles and hugs all around. Celia Tejada looked just as lovely as she was comfortable preparing the largest pan of paella that I had ever seen. We settled in and shared stories of the new year and tales of children, babies born and yet to be born. After a bit of story time, we decided to head for a walk around the vineyard. We met Cricket, the horse and Marley & Noche had a wonderful time running around the vineyard. Once we got back to the ranch, the Paella was ready and we enjoyed it with the 2004 Tejada Tempranillo Reserve which was absolutely fantastic. It was wonderful to share such a beautiful day with the Tejadas & Gordons and it ended way to soon. We didnt want to leave but the sun was setting and we had a two hour drive ahead of us.
When you find yourself in front of a winelist that has a Tejada Tempranillo, you should stop there and order a wine that is meant to be shared with family & friends. I put together a slideshow for you below. The pictures may take a moment or two to load, when you see the paella you know you've reached the end. Please take a few moments and enjoy the day with us!
Cheers!
